What product-market fit actually means

Product-market fit means you have built something that creates real value for a real market — it meets genuine customer needs, and does so better than the alternatives.

Notice what that definition leaves out. It says nothing about a working revenue model or a cost-effective acquisition channel. Those matter enormously, and folding them into "fit" muddies the idea until it just means "profitable".

Keep the two separate. Creating value and capturing value are different problems, and you have to do the first before the second is even available to you.
